NATURE JOURNALING

Day 1 ENG.png

International Nature Journaling Week 2021 | Day 1 (June 01, 2021)

WORDS

Tried out nature journaling for the first time and decided to continue. It was the end of the day around 5 in the evening. I went to the balcony to watch the sunset, but as watching, I was hearing the call of Red-vented Bulbuls. I looked at my favorite branch and saw a pair of Red-vented Bulbul preening for a long time.
"The Red-vented Bulbuls on a dry branch of a tree,
Preening their feathers, feeling so free
Turning right, turning left, turning back,
Looking all around,
Making a cheerful call,
In love, I fall."
I took a video of both the individuals at their regular person branch. The moment when they flip their tail feather, I become curious to look at the red vent. After 20 minutes they both flew away from the branch to their roosting place. I returned back to my room with great joy and happiness.

PICTURES

Pictures are a wonderful way to explore a natural subject in a nature journal.
This morning, I saw a Plain Tiger, a butterfly on a Common Milkweed plant, this turned out to be a picture today!
This is the sketching of a Red-vented Bulbul, which was at my favorite branch this evening, and a Large-billed Crow on a pole.
Please note: am not an artist, but still learning more and loving these nature journaling activities.

NUMBER

Today was a beautiful day. I started to observe the vocalization of an Asian Kiel (Male) for the entire day between morning 6 to evening 6. The male bird vocalized 73 times for the entire day and I sketched out. The male bird also feeds the female with Singapore cherry fruit 5 times. It's courtship feeding. The female got the fruit and ate for 5 times. (All these are a part of Courtship, Display, and copulation). The Male bird was seen 4 times in an open branch of a tree. The male was seen with fruited for 6 times.
Did a handwritten bird checklist. And the last image is of two kids from my neighborhood, as they saw me sketching Asian Kiel, they too started drawing.

I NOTICE...

In the morning, I noticed the Gulmohar flowers dancing to the rhythm of the wind. Took a deep look at the flowers, pods, and leaves and sketched it out.

I NOTICE...

This is the sketching and observation of an Asian Koel (male) in English and Tamil, observed this afternoon. It was a perfect time spent in nature journaling.

International Nature Journaling Week 2021 | Day 5 (June 05, 2021)

I WONDER...

I wondered about two things today.
1. Why and how does the smell of the rain is created?
2. Why do birds preen their feathers and why do they keep their mouth open?
I got the answers for both the questions and have done this nature journaling.
Process matters, not the product.

IT REMINDS ME OF...

I looked back to last year, in the first week of June, we visited a dam in Salem. Where we sighted a lot of birds, out of which I loved the sighting of Jerdon's Leafbird and Greater Racket-tailed Drongo feeding its two fledglings. It was lovely to see all these.

MINDSET MATTERS

Learned a lot from the past seven days and have decided to practice more. I should always think positively that I am able to do things. My Nature Journaling process is gonna be fun and I will grow through the process. This was a great time to get exposed to a lot of other Nature Journaling pages from different parts of the world. Now Nature Journaling is a part of my daily routine!
